Grants and redress for failed cavity wall insulation
There is no single nationwide "free removal" scheme for every home. What you can access depends on how the insulation was installed, whether a guarantee still applies, and current energy-scheme rules.
1. Guarantee first
If you have a CIGA (or other) guarantee, that is usually the first route to free remediation of defects in materials or workmanship (CIGA). See CIGA claims.
2. Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and scheme installs
Government consumer guidance for problems with cavity wall insulation installed under Green Deal or ECO is: contact the installer first; if they have gone or won't help, contact the guarantee provider named in your paperwork (GOV.UK).
Ofgem's ECO complaints process points households to TrustMark, the installer, the scheme provider and relevant ombudsmen, and explains how to identify guarantee providers for older ECO work (Ofgem). TrustMark also publishes a homeowner complaints process (TrustMark).
General information on help from energy suppliers under ECO is on GOV.UK (GOV.UK ECO). Eligibility and what is funded change over time – check the live GOV.UK and Ofgem pages rather than relying on older news articles.
3. Local authority schemes
Some councils occasionally run insulation or retrofit programmes. Ask your local authority what is open now; do not assume a neighbour's past scheme is still available.
4. Paying privately
If no guarantee or scheme applies, you will need private quotes. Use the cost guide for published ranges, then compare itemised local quotes through our form.
